Hi there

We're having a problem where it appears that Dashboard is unable to distinguish between Microsoft Project 2007 Standard and Professional. The software usage report just reports "Microsoft Project 2007". As you can imagine, this isn't particularly useful to us.

I have looked at the raw data in the XML file created by Data Extract. I searched for a computer name I know has Project 2007 Professional installed. The entry in the XML file is shown as follows:

Code:
<File Drv="c" Pth="\program files\microsoft office\office12" Name="winproj.exe" Sz="17438576" Dt="2009-03-06T08:15:16.00000" Prd="Microsoft" Mnf="2007 Microsoft Office system" Ver="12.0.6423.1000" Dsc="Microsoft Project*" />

Our data collection facility is Altiris, and looking in the AeX SW Audit Software report for this computer, there are no explicit entries for Project 2007. Instead it is shown as a "2007 Microsoft Office system" entry.

Is this an issue with Project not reporting it's name correctly, Altiris not classifying the software correctly, or Dashboard not matching the executable correctly. (or even a combination of all three).

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Lesley

Hi Ian

You have raised a very important issue as there are of course licensing implications which mean that the correct installed version should be reported and managed.
The main issue is that the Executable Name and file size are the same for both Standard and Professional versions and so, as you’ve experienced, it is difficult to report on them accurately using the raw data.
The usage can in fact be managed within the Data Cleanse module in LD4 by creating a rule for the devices on which the Standard or Professional version is installed. The usage of each edition can then be verified in Dashboard.
